3D Touch is a pressure sensitive technology first introduced in MacBook and Apple Watch. Eventually, this feature came to later generations of iPhone, starting from iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. This function performs depending on how hard the display is pressed, allowing the users to carry out certain tasks quickly. With the force applied to the device, you can easily reply to notifications, preview messages, switch keyboards, switch apps and more. This technology lets you navigate around your iPhone faster and easier! If you still haven’t made the most out of this handy feature, read on to get started.

Activating 3D Touch

3D Touch is activated by default in newer generations of iPhone (except the SE), although you have the option to adjust its settings or even turn it off. To turn on (or off) 3D Touch, go to Settings > General > Accessibility, and then tap 3D Touch. If you want to adjust the pressure needed to activate 3D Touch, you can choose from light to firm. You can test each setting using the demo to make sure you get the best option.

Peek and pop

Peek and pop are pressure-sensitive gestures that allow you to preview contents of a message, document, web page or other links without opening the app involved. It also provides you with quick actions, allowing you to act on it without having to launch the full app. This is helpful and convenient when you’re working between multiple apps.

To peek:

1. Press on the item you want to peek at.
2. The rest of the screen will blur and the item will be highlighted.
3. If you want to access quick actions, swipe up from the peek and tap the quick action you want to perform.

To pop into an item and make it full screen:

1. Press to peek at the item.
2. Press firmly to pop into it.

To go back to previous app:

1. Press deeper on the left side of the screen or use the back link button at the top left of the screen.
2. Swipe to the right.

Trackpad mode

Typos are inevitable especially if you spend a big part of your day typing on touch screens. When this happens, it can be difficult to get the cursor in the right area where you need to edit. But worry no more as iPhone makes the process easier with its pressure-sensitive screen. With this feature, you can press down on the keyboard to turn it into a trackpad. This lets you move the cursor by swiping instead of tapping your finger in the right spot.

To activate trackpad:

1. Launch the app you want to use and bring up the keyboard.
2. Input some text.
3. Firmly press on the keyboard.
4. Swipe your finger around the keyboard to move the cursor.

To switch between moving cursor and selecting text:

1. Launch the app that you’ll be using.
2. Press firmly on the keyboard.
3. Type in some text.
4. Once you navigated the cursor to your desired location, hard press to highlight text, and continue pressing until the rest of the text block is selected.
5. Release to finish.

These are just some Force Touch features available in iOs. It may take a bit of practice to get used to it but trust us, it’s going to be handy. Try it now and see for yourself!

TPS Tech Tips: How to Turn Off Location Services on Your iPhone

TPS Tech Tips: How to Turn Off Location Services on Your iPhone

Whether you have been using an iPhone for years or have just recently switched to one, privacy settings are important. Location services are a great feature to have on your phone, you can easily locate a nearby restaurant, you can ascertain your location if you think you are lost and alternatively, you can check in to an entertaining game at any time.
Privacy settings are a critical issue especially if you are worried that someone may be tracking your location. That said, it’s better to switch this service off.

If you’re not familiar with how to turn off the location services on your iPhone, here’s an easy guide.

Turn off Location Services completely.

1. From the Home Screen, tap the Settings icon
2. Scroll and tap on Privacy
3. Click on Location Services
4. Toggle the slider into off position and it’s done

Some apps might not work without turning on Location Services, the good thing with Apple is that you can still give permission to use your location on a specific app basis.
1. From the Home Screen, tap the Settings icon
2. Scroll and tap on Privacy
3. Make sure that Location Services is enabled
4. Scroll down and find the app you want to permit

6. You can also click on the app and select an option:
• Always: This feature means you allow the app to access your location even when you are not currently using it
• While Using the App: You allow this app to track your location only when you are using it. You will receive a notification on your status bar when an app is using your location
• Never: You do not allow this app to use your location

Reset or disable Location Services

If an app requires your location, you will receive a notification asking for permission when you use it the first time. You can select ‘Allow’ to give an app the permission to use your location data or tap ‘Don’t Allow’ to prevent an app from using your Location Services data. You can change this anytime on your Settings by following the steps above.

Additionally, you can reset all your Location Services option to factory default to stop apps from using your location until you turn the option on your Settings.
• Go to Settings
• Tap General
• Scroll and tap Reset Location & Privacy

For Wi-Fi use

If your Location Service is on, you will receive notifications when you are in an area where there is an available Wi-Fi service. It will also send geo-tagged locations to Apple’s crowd-sourced database and cell tower locations. If you are travelling, GPS-enabled iOS device is also a big help in monitoring Apple’s road-traffic database. But you don’t need to worry because the data gathered by Apple is anonymous and encrypted, meaning, it doesn’t personally identify you.

Android phones that have large display screens quickly become the norm and many consumers are now enjoying a better, bigger view, especially when playing games and watching videos.

Because of this consumer trend, Apple started to introduce larger phones along with the smaller versions, the iPhone 6 being the initiator of the larger handsets series. However, Apple did not want to lose one of their phone’s redeeming features, which is to be utilised with only one hand that is only possible because of its small scope of surface.

Because of this, Apple has addressed this issue with the larger phones and provides a solution for people who can’t easily touch the icons of their iPhones.

Starting with iOS 8, Apple sets up a new feature: the Reachability mode, which will essentially help you use your iPhone with one hand. The contents shown in the top half of the screen will descend at the bottom, making it easier for you to access it.

1. Go to the Settings app and tap on General.

Now that Reachability is on, here’s how to use this convenient feature every day:

For iPhone 6, 6s, 7, 7 Plus, 8 and 8 Plus:

One way is to tap the home button thrice. Make sure that you don’t press it, as it will launch app switcher. Just give your home button three gentle taps and you’re good to go.

You can also use assistive touch. Tap it, navigate to Device, choose More, and finally, tap Reachability.

This is what your screen will look like when Reachability is activated:

Now, we’ll proceed with iPhone X. Because it opts out of the home button to make way for full face display and Face ID, most users thought that Apple also removed the Reachability feature. iPhone X still has its Reachability feature, although it is turned off by default so you have to go to Settings to turn it on.

1. Go to Settings and navigate to General.

2. Tap Accessibility and turn the Reachability feature on.

3. Touch the gesture bar. It’s the small black bar at the bottom of the screen.

4. Swipe down and you will see that the contents will be displayed at the bottom half of the screen.

5. To bring back the full screen user interface, swipe up from the gesture bar or tap an area outside of the active UI surface.

With the Reachability feature you can maximise the use of your phone. Even if you will not use it often, it can be handy when you’re in a hurry or feeling lazy!

TPS Tech Tips: Customise your Samsung Home Screen

TPS Tech Tips: Customise your Samsung Home Screen

Most people don’t actively ‘theme’ their phones but they usually change the layout of their home screen. Layout is the way of arranging the apps and widgets on your phone’s screen. Some people like their home screen to be as clean as possible with only little icons visible. Even though we have different preferences, we all believe that the space on our home screen is important.

Here are some ideas for customising your Samsung Home screen’s layout:

Adding Home Screen pages on Samsung

1. Tap and hold on your Home screen to bring up the Home screen manager
2. Swipe left to scroll the screen to the right.
3. Tap the add button. Each + button adds one home screen to your phone.

TPS Tech Tips: Emergency SOS

TPS Tech Tips: Emergency SOS

Wherever you are in the world you can have access to emergency service numbers for the police, ambulance and fire fighters. As countries have a different set of call numbers for emergency services, it can be difficult to remember them at times of need. Fortunately, there is now a shortcut on your iPhone to make things a lot easier!

For iPhone users, you might be familiar with the Emergency SOS button on your mobile phone. It is a feature that allows you to alert the authorities by just a simple button configuration. We seriously hope that you never have to use it, but in case the need arises, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to activate it:

A. iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X

For the latest models of iPhone, the Emergency SOS is already set up. To activate, follow these steps:

1. Press and hold the Power button and the volume down button on the sides of your iPhone. Hold it for a few seconds until you see the red slider.
2. For some, there is a countdown but if you are in dire need, just swipe right on the Emergency SOS slider.

B. iPhone 7 and older

For older models, there is a slight difference in how you can activate the Emergency SOS button. Here’s how:

1. Press the Power button five consecutive times.
2. Swipe right on the Emergency SOS slider.

Activating the Emergency SOS button is easy but what if you accidentally trigger it? Is there a way to actually stop the call? Don’t worry! You can actually cancel the call if you have activated it by mistake. All you have to do is to tap on the Stop button. After pressing, you will receive a prompt asking for a confirmation to stop the call.

To check if your Emergency SOS is enabled, go to Settings, click General then select Emergency SOS. Check if Click Sleep/Wake to Auto Call is enabled. You can also see another setting which will make your phone produce audible sound as it counts down. You can choose to disable this, however, if you want to discretely call in situations when being silent is warranted, such as a mugging.

How to Add Emergency Contacts:
The great thing about iPhone’s Emergency SOS feature is that it helps you find the local emergency services number by triangulating your current location. However, if you also want to alert members of your family or your friends when you are in an emergency, you have to designate them yourself. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Launch your iPhone’s Health app.
2. Press the Medical ID tab
3. Press Edit Medical ID.
4. Under the Emergency Contacts press Add emergency contact.
5. Select a contact.
6. Select a Relationship.
7. Repeat the process until all your emergency contacts have been added

These are just some of the ways your iPhone device can help you in times of emergency. This is why you have to take good care of your device. If you notice any defect or malfunction, it is recommended that you take it to a phone repair shop that will do the work for you.

Difference Between Original Vs Copy iPhone LCD Screen

When customers visit a shop for a screen repair, some shops will give them an option to choose between an original screen and a ‘copy’ screen. Most of the time, the first question that a customer asks is “What’s the difference between the two?” Originals are manufactured for Apple while copy screens are only compatible replacements that are manufactured by third party companies. Most of the time, customers choose the relatively affordable copy rather than the original because of the price distinction, but original iPhone screens are still recommended because of its far higher quality.

In this article, we will be sharing our knowledge of copy screens and how different they are from original iPhone screens.

1. Digitizer and Touch Problems

One of the most noticeable differences between an original and a copy is how the touch sensor also called the digitizer is designed. Original Apple screens manufacture digitizers as part of the LCD while copy screens manufacture it on the glass.

There are some companies that manufacture bare LCDs themselves, but these LCDs are also bought by other companies, who in turn add the other parts to create a complete working screen. Because of this, it is possible that you get a great LCD screen, but the digitizer is poor quality.

For iPhone 6, 6s and 6s+, iPhones transferred the chips necessary for the digitizer to work directly on the LCD, that means that when you buy a ‘copy screen’ for these models, you are not only getting a copy of the screen but a copy of the chip.

2. Low Quality LCD Panels

When you buy a copy screen you are also buying a low image quality for your phone. This is because the LCD is of poor quality. The problems experienced are weak brightness, contrast and vibrancy, grainy appearance because of low image resolution and lower refresh rate.

3. Mismatched Parts

In most cases, the performance specification of copy screens is not identical to the original ones. As a result, the battery of the phone drains faster and the OS or operating system is misled. This mismatch is also a possible cause of damage to your backlight.

4. Problems with the Fingerprint ID reader

Copy screens can also create damage to your phone’s touch ID fingerprint reader. The home button flexes on the copy screens design which makes it stop working, and we all know the struggle of not having a working ID fingerprint reader.

Some shops offer copy screens to remain competitive in the market since the difference in price ranges to £20-30. Still, you can get the most of your money with the original for having a better performing iPhone screen. Even though there are different qualities of copy screens, from good copies that actually work to cheaply made ones, there are several factors at play to have your iPhone be used seamlessly. Aside from the points above, one of the factors that might affect the use of your phone with a copy is the Apple updates that conflict with the low grade copy screens.

Eventually, it is your decision whether to choose an original one or not. But additional pounds for an original screen is a good investment. You can avoid all the possible damage caused by copy screens which in turn will help you save money in the long run since you won’t need to return to a shop for further repairs.
